Science and Nature Music Clips

Over the years, by helping distribute their music, Acorn Naturalists has supported recording artists who specialize in the creation of music that teaches children and adults about science, nature and the environment.  Music can be a very enjoyable way to involve students in learning - each musician has their own style - by listening you can determine which selections are most appropriate for your audience or interests.  Once you have decided, simply click on the highlighted name of the band or musician and you will be taken directly to the area on the Acorn Naturalists' website that features their music.

Note:  When clicking on the music sample you may see a "File Download" screen, in which case simply click "open" and the music will load and play.  If a prompt appears that you need RealPlayer to hear the music clip, you can download a free basic version of this audio software directly by clicking here.   All of these music files have been tested and all are files that the artists have made available - none are "pirate editions."  If you have any problems getting these clips to play, check to make sure you have the appropriate audio software on your computer and that your speakers are functioning properly.  In order to give you a high quality audio experience, some of these files are fairly large (0.3 - 0.5mb).  For broadband users, downloading should only take a few seconds.  For dial-up customers, download time may vary depending on your connection.  We hope you enjoy this lively and inspired collection of songs and that it helps you in your selection.

This new breed of place-inspired artists enriches our sense of the connections – and the rifts – between humanity, nature, and spirit. Living in a highly visual world, humans often forget to listen carefully to the sounds of nature and to the general environment around them. Disc One is a real ear-opener, featuring surprising and engaging natural soundscapes, two excursions into urban soundings, and a taste of composing with transformed field recordings. Disc Two is more subtle, asking the listener to enter into a state of "deep listening." It features longer cuts, arranged as a day cycle, from pre-dawn to the middle of the night, with each voicing of the planet being long enough to begin to cast its own particular spell.
